Hello, Guest

Appropriate Body

The Statutory guidance on induction for newly qualified teachers [England] December 2013 states that:   ____________________________________________________________________

Determining the appropriate body
2.20 Independent quality assurance of statutory induction, through the role of the appropriate body, is important both for ensuring that schools provide adequate support for their NQTs, and that their assessment is fair and consistent across all institutions.
2.21 An NQT cannot start their induction until their appropriate body has been agreed.

With effect from April 2013 all schools have funding in their budgets to pay for the services of an Appropriate Body for NQTs.  All schools now have the choice to purchase services from selected providers.  Shropshire Local Authority will levy the following charges to schools to act as Appropriate Body.

£100 Appropriate Body fee (this charge covers schools for 1 year and would only be required to be renewed should the school wish to register NQTs with the LA after that year has passed).

£50 for each NQT registered with Shropshire.
Monitoring and Quality Assuring Newly Qualified Teacher (NQT) Induction.  The DSG 2013-14 includes funding to enable schools to pay for the services of their preferred appropriate body for monitoring and quality assuring NQT induction.  This has been delegated to schools within outturn budgets through the AWPU funding factor.

All schools now have the choice to purchase services from selected providers.

Shropshire Local Authority will levy a charge to schools from September 1st 2013 to act as the Appropriate Body.

The charges are:

£150 for the first NQT, followed by a further charge of £50 for each additional NQT.

This will cover the cost of registration and administration and support from the LA.  A free lesson observation is provided for each school where the school subscribes to Shropshire's CPD programme, further lesson observations will come at cost of £150 (or 3 credits) for a Shropshire Subscriber and £190 for all Shropshire Academies and Non-LA education providers.
