Effective transitions
Starting school and other early years transitions are significant for young children, requiring close attachments and respectful sharing of information. Transitions can be exciting but can also be insecure for some children, impacting their learning, development and care.
To smooth the transitional process, a planned approach is essential, recognising the time needed to communicate and shape relationships with parents / carers and young children. Support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) should include planning and preparing for transitions before a child moves into another setting or school, as well as reviewing the SEND support or Early Help and Care Plan (EHCP). Information should be shared between the current setting and the receiving setting or school.
